About speaker

Dr John Younger

Dr John Younger is a consultant cardiologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital and is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland. He began his cardiac CT training in 2005 on a 16-slice scanner and holds a founding membership of SCCT and Level B accreditation with the Australia and New Zealand Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of training in CT Coronary Angiography.


He undertook a two-year fellowship in cardiac MRI at Leeds University, UK, before returning to Australia in 2007 to establish the cardiac CT and cardiac MRI programs at RBWH (in conjunction with the Medical Imaging Department). 


He specializes in cardiac imaging, particularly cardiac CT and cardiac MRI, but also transthoracic, transoesophageal and stress echocardiography. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences, including SCMR 2011 (Nice, France) and CSANZ 2010 (Adelaide). He has acted as the scientific coordinator for several national meetings on cardiac imaging, particularly the Gold Coast Cardiac Imaging Symposium. He is the joint lead for the cardiac imaging stream on the program committee for CSANZ 2012 and is the chair of a committee establishing a pathway for the investigation of intermediate risk chest pain patients presenting to Queensland Health Hospitals. 


In 2010 he organized Australia’s first radiographer training course for cardiac CT and he has also taught on CT angiography courses with Harvey Hecht in Perth 2011 and John Hoe in Sydney, 2010. He has published in a variety medical journals including The BMJ and Heart. His most recent article was in The Lancet during January 2012 as an author of the landmark CE-MARC study.
