Abdominal MRI course

This 4-hour long session comprises an equal mix of didactic lectures and case-based teaching in hepatic, biliary and pancreatic MR imaging. Lectures are prepared by abdominal radiologists from Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and cases will be interpreted by the faculty in a simulated clinical setting using a PACS viewer.

 At the end of the lecture, participants will:

1. be familiar with the rationale for each type imaging pulse sequence and the routine protocols for imaging of the hepatico-pancreatico-biliary (HPB) system

2. be confident in detecting pathology in the HPB system on a routine abdominal MRI

3. recognise the characteristic imaging patterns of common lesions in the HPB.

About speaker

Dr Tan Cher Heng

Dr Tan Cher Heng specializes in oncologic imaging and abdominal MRI. He obtained his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 2001 and completed his training in Diagnostic Radiology with a clinical fellowship in oncologic abdominal imaging at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Singapore and a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in the UK.

He is a Clinical Core Faculty member of the NHG-AHPL residency program and has won a number of teaching awards from 2009 onwards. As Adjunct Assistant Professor and Lead for Anatomy and Radiology, with the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (jointly set up between Nanyang Technological University Singapore and Imperial College School of Medicine in London), he is involved with the teaching of anatomy using diagnostic imaging to medical students.

He holds the appointment of Deputy Director, Clinical Research and Innovations Office, TTSH. His research interests include liver and prostate MRI and he has more than 50 peer reviewed publications to date. He also serves as a Specialty Editor for the Singapore Medical Journal, and as as sub-section editor of Abdominal Imaging.

He serves as the Vice-President of the Singapore Radiological Society (SRS)and as Council Member of the Asian Society of Abdominal Radiology.
