Pitfalls of NIV: causes and remedies

Non-invasive ventilation is standard therapy in the management of both hypoxemic and hypercapnic respiratory failure of various causes. NIV clinical application has increased over the past 2 decades. In comparison with conventional invasive mechanical ventilation, NIV has the advantages of reducing patient discomfort, procedural complications, and mortality.

About speaker

Dr Mark Elliott

He is responsible for developing the home sleep and assisted ventilation services, for acute in hospital NIV and weaning of patients with prolonged ventilator dependence at St James’s University Hospital. His research interests are in acute and chronic NIV and OSA.
